Why should you educate yourself on ethics and compliance?

Be a selfish sausage and get yourself signatory level education on the ABPI Code of Practice

I reckon there are four levels of understanding about why you should get yourself educated on ethics and compliance. Grumpy to selfish sausage here we go:

Because you have to (grumpy-recalcitrant level)

I’m not sure how many times I’ve been given the big build up before a workshop that goes something along the lines of ‘here’s your mandatory ABPI training make sure you’ve signed the list to prove you were here in body at least’.

Of course if you work in commercialisation of prescription medicines you do HAVE to ‘train on the Code’ but if that’s the only reason then I wish you luck…or do I because you are probably in the wrong job.

Because being non-compliant can lead to bad things for your company and you (fearful certainty-seeker level)

You know you have to learn about compliance but also you know that compliance cock ups can be very painful so some advice on how to avoid them you can see would be very useful and will help you get through the approval process

Because you want to make sure patients are cared for (good-egg level)

You know 1 & 2 are true but it’s not just about compliance because compliance is a limited concept. It’s about good ethics – you can see how what you do may affect people you will never meet and want to know more about how to make sure patients are not just protected but helped. You can see beyond the Code to the patient. Good on you.

Because you are a person focussed on doing well for yourself and being as successful in pharma as possible (selfish sausage level)

You know 1, 2 & 3 are true but more than that you know you will be a much better marketer, communicator, agency leader, business unit director, sales professional or whatever if you are as fluent in ethics and compliance as the compliance leaders and final signatories you work with and who will challenge your ideas.

          What level are you?

Whichever level you are at the moment, if you’re interested in learning more about our signatory training on the ABPI Code of Practice, please get in touch.
